The Training Center has grown immensely over the past 20 years. Our class offerings have expanded to over 80 open enrollment courses, and we offer services such as coaching, individual development plan (IDP) consulting and workshops, and career and leadership development programs to further support your learning and development needs.

Announcing a Career Development Program for GS 5-11 Employees

The Emerging Talent Program (ETP) is a new career development program designed specifically to support NIH employees at the GS 5-11 levels (including wage grade and/or Title 42 equivalents). The ETP provides a comprehensive platform for skill enhancement, professional growth, and cross-functional collaboration. During the six-month program, participants meet two days each month to enhance essential skills like communication, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and networking. The Emerging Talent Program is part of our Career Development Continuum of programs.

In 2024, the NIHTC will offer two ETP pilot cohorts of 30 participants each. Cohort 1 begins in February and Cohort 2 begins in April. Both cohorts include a combination of virtual and in-person sessions.

The call for ETP nominations was sent to Executive Officers in December and ends on January 31, 2024. If you are a GS 5-11 (or equivalent) NIH employee interested in embarking on an enriching career development journey, discuss your interest with your supervisor and follow your IC’s internal nomination process.

NIH Management Intern Opportunities: 
Attend a February Information Session

Interested in reaching your potential? Ready for a career transition? The NIH Management Intern (MI) Program may be the answer! The NIHTC is pleased to announce the start of the new recruitment season for Management Interns. The MI Program provides an opportunity for highly motivated NIH employees to transition from their current role into an administrative management career. As a Management Intern, this two-year opportunity enables you to gain valuable experience and insight into the NIH through rotations in a variety of administrative management areas. Program features include a senior-level mentor, an individual training budget, an opportunity to participate in challenging projects and committees, and face-to-face interactions with NIH leaders.

MI Vacancy Timeline and MI Recruitment Listserv
The MI Program job vacancy announcement will open in March 2024 on USAJOBS.gov. Current GS-7–12 NIH employees are invited to apply. If you are interested in following the MI recruitment process this year, please join the NIH MI Listserv. We keep members up to date throughout the recruitment season.

2024 DDM Seminar Series Schedule 

Join us for the first Deputy Director for Management (DDM) Seminar, “Intentional Workplace Culture,” on January 11th, featuring Jessica Kriegel. Ms. Kriegel will share her insights for building an intentional culture that delivers results. If you cannot attend, find the archived videocast—along with other previous DDM seminars—on our Past Seminars page. 

The FY24 DDM Seminar Series continues with topics that address fostering purposeful culture, leading through transition, and working in a post-pandemic world. In addition, we anticipate hosting a hybrid seminar in May with a return to in-person presentations in the Masur Auditorium in Building 31 along with simultaneous videocasts. Please monitor the DDM Seminar Series website for location updates for that particular seminar. Mark your calendar from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. for upcoming DDM seminars!

Training Deadline for Acquisition Professionals

Acquisition workforce professionals who hold a Federal Acquisition Certification for Contracting (FAC‑C), Contracting Officer’s Representative (FAC‑COR), and Program and Project Managers (FAC-P/PM) have until April 30, 2024 to obtain CLPs to maintain their certification. To help fulfill these learning requirements, the NIHTC offers a selection of acquisitions classes that offer CLPs. Click on the PDF link below to register for Q2 offerings! Most offerings are virtual unless otherwise noted.

For More Information: Refer to the Office of Acquisition and Logistics Management’s website for the latest policy updates on recertification or the Federal Acquisition Institute’s (FAI's) FAQs for information about certifications. CLPs earned from NIHTC acquisition classes should be submitted in FAI Cornerstone OnDemand (FAI CSOD). Log into the HHS Learning Management System to download and save your certificate of completion to upload to FAI CSOD.
