Staff Scientist/Facility Head

Job Summary

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting for a Staff Scientist/Facility Head to directly manage the shared Genetic Engineering and Viral Vector Core within its Intramural Research Program (IRP). Research performed in this core focuses on developing genetic tools capable of modulating and monitoring molecules, cells, and circuits in the nervous system, and on providing general molecular biology support for NIDA IRP.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must be committed to scientific excellence and highly collaborative research. Applicants must hold an MD or PhD or equivalent degree(s). Criteria for selection include experience in one or more of the following: CRISPR gene editing, RNA silencing tools, optogenetics/chemogenetics/geneticencoded biosensors, transcriptomics, and transgenic animal generation. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other research groups within the NIDA-IRP and to provide state-of-the-art genetic and molecular biology tools to support studies aimed at understanding mechanisms of drug addiction. Thus, a proven ability to establish and sustain collaborative work is highly desirable.

Benefits

The selected candidate will receive resources from NIDA for on-going program operations, and will be responsible for managing budget, personnel, and space within the Core. NIDA will provide adequate laboratory and office space for advancement of the Core. This facility supports genetic and molecular biology research within the NIDA IRP, located within the Biomedical Research Center on the campus of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. The broader NIH campus and the NIDA IRP in Baltimore provide a rich and highly interactive translational neuroscience environment. Full federal benefits are included.
