Staff Scientist

Job Summary

The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) seeks an outstanding Staff Scientist to conduct health disparities research studies. These studies will focus on health disparities and minority health, with a strong emphasis on analysis of data from population-based studies and data linkage and managing other health-disparities-related research projects and statistical support services to the DIR. Additionally, the position will support the broad research agenda of the NIMHD DIR, with three branches: social and behavioral sciences branch, population and community health sciences branch, and epidemiology and genetics branch. Scientific interactions occur frequently among a wide range of independent research groups within and outside of NIMHD, therefore providing the incumbent with exceptional opportunities for collaborations.

A Staff Scientist is a NIH employee generally appointed to a time-limited, renewable position to support the long- term research vision of NIMHD. Staff Scientists do not receive independent resources, although they often work independently and have sophisticated skills and knowledge essential to the work of the laboratory. Staff Scientists should be capable of independently designing research studies based on hypothesis driven questions, but do not have responsibilities for initiating new research programs. The Staff Scientist in this position will have the opportunity to mentor post-doctoral fellows and post-baccalaureate fellows, assist with other training efforts in the DIR.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a closely related field and at least three years of postdoctoral experience. Outstanding publication record in minority health and health disparities research, mentoring experience, evidence of teamwork, and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Benefits

This is a full-time equivalent position, and a comprehensive benefits package is available. This position follows the NIH Title 42 pay model, Band II, Tier 1 starting salary of $80,354. Final salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
