• Dr. Rodgers is widely recognized for his contributions to the development of the first effective, and now FDA-approved, therapy for sickle cell anemia. Recently, he and his collaborators have reported on a modified blood stem-cell transplant regimen that is highly effective in reversing sickle cell disease in adults.
• In recognition of his research on sickle cell disease, Dr. Rodgers recently was honored as a finalist in the 2015 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals (the “Sammies”). This prestigious award is presented annually by the nonprofit, nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service to celebrate excellence in the federal civil service.
• Dr. Rodgers has been elected to a number of prestigious societies, including the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
• Dr. Rodgers has published over 200 original research articles, reviews, and book chapters, and has edited four books and monographs.
