Clinical Tenure-Track Investigator

Job Summary

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) within NIAID seeks a clinical tenure-track investigator in the Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research (LMVR). See more information about LMVR and DIR.

LMVR is seeking an outstanding scientist to develop a vigorous, independent program focused on basic science and clinical research in the area of vector-borne arboviral disease transmission. The selected candidate will be expected to develop an exciting clinical research program that includes basic and/or translational research with relevance for developing novel prevention strategies, diagnostics, and treatments for these conditions. The incumbent will benefit from opportunities to interact with other members of LMVR and DIR who perform basic and translational research on vector-borne diseases and with clinician scientists from the NIAID DIR campus laboratories and NIH Clinical Center. The candidate will oversee and lead the NIAID International Centers for Excellence in Research (ICER) site in Cambodia.

The incumbent will have access to state-of-the-art core research support and the NIH Clinical Center, a premier research hospital on the main NIH campus. The incumbent will be assigned independent resources to include laboratory support personnel, equipment, space, and an allocated annual budget for services, supplies, and salaries sufficient to foster success.

Required Qualifications

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the United States
  • Extensive research experience
  • Strong publication record demonstrating potential for creative research

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in the biology of arboviral disease transmission
  • Expertise in clinical and field studies on virus/vector/host interactions that affect disease transmission and pathogenesis

Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. A complete federal civil service package of benefits (including retirement plans; insurance plans for health and life; and Thrift Savings Plan [401k equivalent]) is available. U.S. citizenship is not required.
