Professional Accomplishments
  • Led innovations in NIH open science to advance data management and sharing, as well as the use of standards such as common data elements, neuroimaging data formats, and neuroimaging pulse sequence protocols.
  • Led innovations in NIH interdisciplinary research and team science to make routine the ability to include multiple principal investigators on individual NIH grants and to enhance and expand the use of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.
  • Developed and led many large-scale trans-NIH research initiatives, including the NIH Human Connectome Project, the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research, NIH’s Interdisciplinary Research Consortia Initiative, and the U.S. Human Brain Project, which included five federal agencies and was key in creating and establishing the field of neuroinformatics.
