This year marks the 10th anniversary of the NIH Leave Bank, a significant milestone celebrating a decade of unwavering support and community. Over the past ten years, the Leave Bank has seen continuous growth, with a remarkable 186% increase in program participation, rising from just a few thousand employees in 2014 to over 12,000 today. This growth highlights the increasing recognition of the Leave Bank's vital role as a lifeline for NIH employees facing personal or family medical emergencies. As more colleagues engage with this resource, it reinforces our commitment to one another and fosters a culture of care within the NIH community.
The Fall Open Enrollment for the NIH Leave Bank will run from November 11 to December 9, 2024, with the new membership period starting on January 12, 2025. Enrollment is open to all NIH Federal employees. The Leave Bank serves as a pooled bank of donated leave, providing eligible members with a safety net in the event of personal or family medical emergencies, acting like insurance for your paycheck when your own sick and annual leave is exhausted.
To become a Leave Bank member, access the Integrated Time and Attendance System (ITAS) during Open Enrollment and select “Leave Bank Membership.” If you are currently a 2024 Leave Bank member, your membership will automatically continue into 2025 unless you choose to opt out in ITAS. ITAS is available at https://itas.nih.gov.
The yearly membership contribution is equivalent to one pay period’s worth of annual leave accrual. If you lack sufficient leave, the membership contribution will be automatically waived. Contributions for 2025 will be deducted from your carryover annual leave, not from your 2024 Use-or-Lose hours.
Join us in celebrating a decade of support by enrolling in this invaluable program!
