Peace Corps or AmeriCorps VISTA
Federal regulations allow Peace Corps and AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers, as well as former or current Peace Corps staff, to apply for Federal Government jobs without competing with the general public. However, this doesn't guarantee a job. You still need to meet job qualifications, go through the selection, and satisfy other requirements like background checks.
If applying to an announcement directly, the announcement must be accepting applications from outside of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In other words, the announcement should be available to individuals outside of HHS.
Eligibility Criteria
- Former Peace Corps volunteer with two years of service or AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer with one year of service, completed within the past year.
- Former volunteers from either group who completed service within the past three years and who are seeking an extension due to military service, studying, or relevant experience. Documentation must explain the extension request.
- Current or former Peace Corps staff who've served continuously for 36 months without a break exceeding three days and left the Peace Corps less than three years ago.
Required Documents
- Peace Corps certification of your service or employment.
- For extension requests, provide a reason and, if based on military service, a DD-214.
Submit all documents by the job post's closing date.
