Summary

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is seeking applications from exceptional candidates with expertise in basic research and translational science, and experience in multiple disciplines, including the broad application of information technology. Familiarity with specific NIH grant mechanisms (e.g., UM1, U24, etc.) and a proven track record of managing complex clinical research networks also is essential.

This position is under the Silvio O. Conte Senior Biomedical Research and Biomedical Product Assessment Service (SBRBPAS) Title 42 U.S. Code § 237 Authority and will serve as the associate director of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program and chief of the CTSA Program Branch in its Division of Clinical Innovation (DCI). Under this authority, the official title is Supervisory SBRBPAS Expert. This specific position fills an indefinite excepted service position; SBRBPAS employees serve at the will of the agency and do not serve trial or probationary periods.

Duties

The Supervisory SBRBPAS Expert within DCI is responsible for providing leadership and overseeing all activities of the CTSA Program Hubs under the NCATS CTSA Program. The incumbent also interacts directly with the NCATS director on vision and strategy regarding the Center’s mission and collaborations across and beyond the NIH.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, or U.S. National. Foreign nationals or legal permanent residents are not eligible for consideration. Candidates must indicate their U.S. citizenship status on their CV or within their email application submission.

In order to qualify for this position, candidates must possess either a doctoral-level degree in biomedicine or a biological related field, or a master's level or higher degree in:

  • engineering
  • bioinformatics
  • or an emerging or related scientific field.

In addition, candidates must have at least one year of experience related to the position, including achievements in one or more of the following areas to demonstrate the individual has received recognition as an expert in the field:

  • Conducted original biomedical research published in peer-reviewed journals of high stature
  • Received major prizes and awards (such as visiting professorships and named lectureships) in recognition of original contributions to biomedical research
  • Received invitations to speak at or chair major national or international meetings or symposia
  • Elected to membership in professional societies of high stature, or
  • Meets other criteria demonstrating sufficient rigor or accomplishment in a relevant or closely related field that is necessary to the accomplishment of NIH's mission.

If you are a current Federal Title 5 employee, you must have one year of equivalent experience at the GS-14 level or above
