Summary
As a Criminal Investigator or early-career professional in a similar role, you may support investigations that help protect the public and uphold the law. Your work may include gathering and documenting facts, assisting with surveillance, collecting and preserving physical or digital evidence, conducting or supporting interviews, maintaining case records, and preparing investigative materials.
Duties
Representative duties may include:
- Support criminal investigations by gathering, analyzing, and documenting facts through established procedures and protocols.
- Assist with surveillance activities to monitor suspects, locations, or other matters pertinent to investigations.
- Collect and preserve physical or digital evidence in accordance with legal requirements and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Assist with interviews of witnesses, victims, suspects, or other sources to obtain factual and reliable information.
- Prepare investigative notes, logs, summaries, reports, and other case-related materials.
- Coordinate with senior investigators, law enforcement partners, and other stakeholders to support investigative activity.
- Use spreadsheets, collaboration platforms, dashboards, automation, or approved AI-enabled tools, where authorized, to support research, drafting, summarization, data organization, reporting, and workflow improvement.
- Review digital or AI-assisted outputs for accuracy, completeness, relevance, legal sufficiency, and appropriate use before incorporating them into official work.
Depending on the hiring agency, you may also use digital tools, dashboards, automation, and approved AI-enabled tools to organize case information, summarize source materials, identify patterns or leads for review, and prepare draft investigative materials. Applicants do not need to be AI experts, but should be comfortable learning new tools, using technology responsibly, and adapting to a changing work environment.
