Summary

This position is located at the Clinical Research Core office under the National Institute on Aging's Intramural Research Program.The Clinical Research Core office is the research facility in Baltimore, Maryland that supports the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the NIA.The NIA IRP support broad-based research focused on critical issues related to the biology of aging and age-associated diseases and disabilities. This Nurse (Research Specialist) is the official title.

Duties

The duties for this Nurse (Research Specialist) position include, but not limited to the following: Manage a cytapheresis unit and utilizing critical thinking and skills in performing cytapheresis and coordinating care for individuals who are participants in NIA cytapheresis studies. Collaborate with the Principal Investigator (Pl) and serves as an Associate Investigator (AI) on NIA cytapheresis protocols and other NIA studies. Guide health care staff in the execution of clinical protocols requiring cytapheresis material. Provide expert consultation in matters related to cytapheresis and appropriately consults and collaborates with medical and interdisciplinary staff colleagues. Ensure that the cytapheresis unit is always fully operational and that apheresis equipment is in good repair and supplies are not outdated. Responsible for all normal donor activity, including development of donor pool through advertising, recruitment, donor assessment for eligibility based on regulations and protocol criteria. Review records for repeat donors to ensure continued eligibility, safety, and appropriate medical follow-up, if indicated.
