Job Posting: Deputy Clinical Director (Staff Clinician 1)
Summary
The Office of the Clinical Director, Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), National Institutes of Health, invites applications from clinicians and clinician-scientists for a full-time position as Deputy Clinical Director (Staff Clinician 1, Series 0680). The NIDCR Office of the Clinical Director (OCD) encourages a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that promotes the translation of basic research discoveries into clinical practices. The OCD oversees all clinical activities and human subject studies related to the mission of the NIDCR by providing management and administrative support for clinical research protocols; offering a dental consult service for the NIH Clinical Center patient population; and supporting a Dental Clinical Research Fellowship. These activities support the ground-breaking human clinical trials of the DIR with an emphasis on rare diseases and diseases of high biomedical impact. Duties
The Deputy Clinical Director (DCD) provides direct support to the Clinical Director (CD). The incumbent has responsibility and full authority to execute management activities of and oversee the administrative staff for the DIR's Clinical Research Fellowship Program (DCRF), Dental Clinic, and the Dental Clinical Research Core (DCRC). The incumbent serves as Acting Clinical Director in the absence of the CD, exercising independent judgment when assuming the role in urgent or problematic situations. The DCD may serve as Director for the Dental Clinical Research Fellowship Program. The incumbent may actively participate in the selection of the Clinical Research Fellows. The selectee may provide care to NIH patients as required by research protocols in which they are participating or collaborating (both in the outpatient and inpatient clinics). The incumbent may provide supportive clinical services for the unique NIH Clinical Center (CC) population as a limited part of their official duty in accordance with their clinical training and credentials.
The DCD will advise on clinical trials management and efficient study initiation and maintenance, and public-private partnerships. The DCD will advise and may oversee the dental clinic operations and CC activities supported by the NIDCR.
The incumbent will develop processes and guidelines relevant to OCD administration, clinical training, clinical research, and regulatory functions of the OCD. This includes responding to data requests, developing annual reports and operational outcomes, and working with the CD on administrative and operational planning.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD or DDS degree from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body, or other medical school provided the education and knowledge is equivalent to that of an LCME-approved school, and have an active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico and must qualify for credentials at the NIH CC (restricted, teaching or limited licenses do not qualify). Incumbent must demonstrate administrative or managerial experience, preferably in government or academic institutions, that is relevant to clinical research. The incumbent must have experience in clinical training and curriculum development.
Preferred Qualifications
It is preferred that applicants have experience in hospital administration, budgetary and resource allocation, research publications, leadership experience, and clinical research and regulatory oversight.
