This position is located within the Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB), The Radiation Epidemiology Branch in DCEG - NCI, at the Shady Grove Campus (9609 Medical Center Dr. Rockville, MD 20850).
Who We Are
The Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG)’s mission is to discover the causes of cancer and inform the means for prevention by conducting transdisciplinary epidemiological and genetic research. The DCEG research portfolio and vision covers the etiology of cancer, risk prediction, prevention, early detection and clinical outcomes, and methodological research on study design and data analytics. The Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) conducts interdisciplinary research to identify, understand, and quantify the risk of cancer in populations exposed to medical, occupational, or environmental radiation, and to advance understanding of radiation carcinogenesis. REB scientists conduct a wide range of epidemiological, genetic, and radiation dosimetry research to quantify risk, identify susceptible populations, and carry out advanced exposure assessments.
Duties
The Staff Scientist, working under the direction of a Senior Investigator within the REB, will contribute to multiple aspects of the investigator’s research program on environmental sources of radiation and cancer risks. Specific duties include coordinating study design and implementation, managing complex epidemiological and clinical datasets, performing statistical analyses, and contributing to the development and maintenance of collaborative research resources. Responsibilities also include mentoring trainees, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and preparing scientific reports and manuscripts for presentation or publication. Independent work on data analyses and pilot projects will be encouraged.

Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Candidates will have a doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, or public health). The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working independently. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, as demonstrated through scientific presentations and peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrated experience with population-based studies, radiation dose-response modeling, programming in SAS, R, and Epicure, and interdisciplinary collaborations is highly desirable.
