Accommodations

The NIH Training Center (NIHTC) is committed to supporting accessibility for those attending training. While we provide services directly for large open events, we work with Institutes and Centers on their employees’ regular workday accommodations while attending registered training at the NIHTC, and customize reasonable accommodations accordingly.

Reasonable Accommodations

NIHTC training programs and classes are conducted both in-person and onsite.  If you plan to attend an in-person class, feel free to have your interpreter accompany you. Review the NIHTC Location Information for details on parking at our two training facilities.

For both virtual and in-person classes, please notify the NIHTrainingCenter@nih.gov at least two weeks before the training if you will need a reasonable accommodation. This helps us to incorporate your needs into our instructor’s full class preparations process. We are used to working with students in the following ways, or can work with you on a unique need:

  1. The NIH Training Center can request an interpreter from ASL Interpreting Services for you.  Or, if you already have an interpreter, feel free to have them accompany you.
  2. We will let the class instructor know an interpreter will attend class.  The NIH Training Center can provide a Zoom link to the virtual platform for the interpreter.
  3. If the class is onsite, the NIH Training Center will set up additional chairs to accommodate the interpreter.
  4. Let the NIH Training Center know if you prefer the training materials in advance.  We will make every effort to provide them before the class begins.

For career and development programs, please notify the NIHTrainingCenter@nih.gov at least three weeks before your first program session begins. As several of our programs take place offsite as well as virtually, we will work closely with you and our instructors early on to envision an accommodations plan that fulfills your program participation needs.

Nursing Mothers

If you scheduled to attend an NIHTC class and need a lactation room, please enroll in the Nursing Mothers Program several weeks prior to class. Please note – our White Flint location has a lactation room on the 3rd floor. An NIHTC staff member will escort you as the 3rd floor is locked.
