Senior Executive Service
The Senior Executive Service (SES) is a corps of men and women who administer public programs at the top levels of Federal Government. The SES covers managerial, supervisory and policy positions classified above GS-15 that are not required to be filled by Presidential appointment with Senate confirmation. Although established under Title 5, it is a distinct, gradeless personnel system in which salary is linked to individual performance and the same executive qualifications requirements (Executive Core Qualifications) are applied to all of its members. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has overall authority for the SES program, providing oversight and assistance to agencies as they develop and manage their executive resources.
